Cereus peruvianus cactus, a native to South America, is a vertically growing erect columnar plant. The common names of this cactus are Peruvian apple cactus or Queen of the Night. Belonging to the Cactaceae Family, the cactus reaches a height of 30 ft. in the open or its native region. It is characterized by a green-grayish stem typical of cacti with brown spines on the edge of the stems. In indoor settings, the Peruvian cactus apple grows to about 6 to 8 feet with a fast growth rate. In summer, white flowers appear that bloom at night and close in the morning. Besides, the Cereus peruvianus flower is short-lived. The winter-dormant ​​Peruvian apple cactus plant grows well in bright direct sun or shade, but it is not frost-hardy.

Flowering
The blooming season is summer. Small white funnel-shaped flowers bloom at night and close during the morning.

Watering and Feeding
Cereus peruvianus care includes watering the plant frequently during spring and summer and going slow during winter. This cactus should be watered only when the soil is dry.

Soil
The soil should be well-draining. It is best to use a typical cactus soil mix.

Hardiness
The Peruvian apple cactus cold hardiness zone is 9 to 11. It is not frost-hardy. The ideal temperature for its good growth ranges from -60° to -75°F (15.5° to 23.8°C) during summer and 50° to 55°F (10° to 13°C) during winter.

Light
This cactus can grow well in direct sun, medium, or low light. Offer it bright direct sun to shade, indoors or outdoors, and it will keep growing well.

Propagation
Cereus peruvianus can be propagated from offsets, stem cuttings, or seeds.

Cereus Peruvianus tends to get heavier as it grows taller and starts to bend towards the sun. If the cactus is potted, turn the pot to contain the bending. Similar is the case with flowers. To prevent plants from freezing while in transit, orders placed for areas with extreme severe freezing temperatures will be held for shipment until it is safe to ship.

Plants that are in 3.5" pots and smaller will be shipped in its pot to prevent any damage to the roots. Any plant that is larger than a 3.5" pot WILL NOT come with a pot as it will be shipped bare root.

Depending on the species and season, you will receive a very similar plant to the one in the picture. It may or may not be blooming at the time of your purchase.

We ship via USPS Priority Mail, and we calculate the shipping cost based on the weight and volume of your purchase. Care instructions are included in every package you order.
