Astrophytum Capricorne is commonly known as 'Goat's Horns' and ‘Zebra Plant’. This is a hardy Northern Mexico native cactus with curved spines on its globe-shaped stem. It can reach up to the height of 18 in or 45 cm and belongs to the Cactaceae family. The globular stem has prominent ribs that run around the edge of the winter-dormant cacti from top to bottom.

Growth Rate

Astrophytum capricorne has a fast growth rate.

Flowering

Zebra plant succulent blooms light and subtle yellow flowers with a red or orange center in the summer.

Watering and Feeding

Water this cactus from spring to near the end of fall when the soil becomes dry. Feed it once a month during the growing season with a cactus and succulent fertilizer.

Soil

A well-draining soil mix is recommended for Astrophytum capricorne. 60 percent perlite, 20 percent peat, and 20 percent compost, or a combination of these work well for their growth. You can buy a ready-made mix if you do not want to make your own.

Hardiness

Astrophytum capricorne is a drought-tolerant cactus. It has a frost tolerance of -5° C (23° F)and belongs to the hardiness zone of 10a to 11b.

Light

A real cutie.

Pretty little cactus, so unique! Smaller than I expected.Some of the spines on top of the cactus were damaged in shipping, missing some. Will enjoy watching it grow.

Rotted

Sadly this cactus didn’t make it, it died of rot. I noticed it when I wanted to repot it about a month and a half after it arrived. I kept it outside (SoCal) but completely out of the rain and never watered it. The same thing happened it another cactus in this order.
