Body flat, 50-80 mm in diameter and 20-30 mm high, epidermis mat, dull gray-green to light blue-green often with reticulate gray patina. Roots napiform, formed as a storage organ, only in the lower part filiform to fibrous, sometimes divided into several branches right under the hypocotyl. Ribs (7-) 8-10 (-13), straight, in younger plants low with straight furrows between them, divided with very short shallow transverse furrows into small rounded bumps, which turn into blunt chin-like protrusions under the areoles. In older plants, these bumps are larger with a distinctly pronounced round-edged chin, they also have undulate furrows between the ribs.
