Agave isthmensis 'Ohi Raijin Shiro Nakafu' goes by the common name 'Variegated Dwarf Butterfly Agave'. This succulent is rosette-shaped and seems to for a small face with individual rosettes. The plant originates in Southern Mexico and belongs to the family of Asparagaceae. The plant is evergreen and can grow up to a height of 6 inches.

Growth Rate

This is a slow growing succulent and no matter how much you nurture it, it will take its own sweet time to grow. The good news is that they require very little space and for the owner to have minimal to no gardening experience.

Flowering

During the spring season, you will see attractive yellow-colored flowers blooming.

Watering and Feeding

If you are someone who waters their plant a lot, this succulent is not for you. No matter which season, it likes to be infrequently watered and just be left alone. Feed the plant triannually but make sure the fertilizer does not have heavy salts.

Soil

You can easily find an organic cactus mix at your nearest store. Make it well drained. Keep it away from wet or mucky soil at all costs.

Hardiness

Keep in mind dwarf butterfly agave’s frost tolerance of 10° C. Their hardiness zone lies between 9b to 11b. Since it is native to growing in the wild, it is frost-hardy.

Light

Even though this is a petite plant, you will be shocked to see the amount of bright sunlight it requires! If you have a bright window or a garden with full sun access, you are good to go.
