Aloe krapohliana

Aloe Krapohliana also goes by the name Karoo Aloe. This succulent belongs to the Xanthorrhoeaceae family and is native to South Africa and Namibia. Offering a dormancy of summers, the plant can grow about 20 to 25 centimetres in height. It is a dwarf aloe and is circular shaped.

Growth Rate

Aloe Krapohliana is both slow and slow growing. If grown indoors, it might take 3-4 years to fully grow but growth is much faster if grown outdoors.

Flowering

The flowers are tubular in shape and orange-red in color. The tips are tinged with a greenish-yellow color. You will see them blooming in the winter season.

Watering and Feeding

Aloe Krapohliana needs a consistent but occasional watering routine during winter. No watering is required in summer. To boost growth, feed the plant with a fertilizer that is high in potassium but has a low level of diluted nitrogen.

Soil

Since Aloe Krapohliana grows in drier climates, provide it with a porous and organic cactus mix. Keep it away from soggy soil at all costs.

Hardiness

Keep in mind that the hardiness zone of Karoo Aloes is 9b to 11. It cannot withstand freezing temperatures and has a frost tolerance of 5°C.

Light

Your Karoo Aloe needs direct and bright sunlight. You will see the leaves turn a distinct red and orange colour when they get sufficient sunlight at all times of the year.

Propagation

Propagation can either take place through offsets or seeding. Both methods have the same benefits and you can choose according to your suitability.

There are hundreds of types when it comes to the Aloe Krapohliana. You can choose one that matches your needs; whether you want a succulent that flowers or not are all up to you!
