The plant has its origin in Mexico and belongs to the family of Cactaceae. Astrophytum Ornatum Metztitlan offers a dormancy of winters and goes from about 30 cm up to 120 cm in height.

Growth Rate

The star cactus grows at a slow pace and needs a huge amount of water from time to time.

Flowering

Astrophytum Ornatum Metztitlan is known for its light lemon yellow-colored flowers that bloom in both the spring and the summer seasons.

Watering and Feeding

You need to make sure that your Star Cactus does not sit in water for too long. While less water is required in winters, make sure you water the plant at least once in the growing period. Its fertilizing season starts from April and goes on till the month of October.

Soil

Well-draining, sandy soil is the best since it allows water drainage. Avoid soil that retains moisture.

Hardiness

The plant grows best in winters, keeping in mind its frost tolerance of -10° C (14° F). Astrophytum Ornatum Metztitlan belongs to the hardiness zone of 6-10b.

Light

The plant requires direct sun exposure. It can also adjust in partial indirect lighting from time to time. Star Cactus enjoys bright and direct sunlight daily.

Propagation

Star Cactus can be propagated by seeds that are found in their flowers. Propagation from its leaves can take place when a leaf is carefully cut from the mother plant and grown from scratch.

Astrophytum Ornatum Metztitlan ‘Star Cactus’ is an ideal cactus since it is small in size and unique in shape. This kind flourishes in situations where no plant would survive easily.
