Bowiea volubilis plant has its origin in South Africa. This is a moderate growing variety that can reach up to 16 inches in height. Known by its common name “Climbing onion”, this popular winter-dormant succulent plant from the Asparagaceae family is a great addition to your home. Its green string-like foliage is similar to that of decorative asparagus ferns and edible asparagus. Interestingly, the plant is made up of a nearly spherical ball of succulent matter that resembles an onion, hence the name climbing onion plant.

A surprising birthday gift

I saw this plant at a local nursery and fell in love with it! Until I saw the price. My sisters asked me what I wanted for my birthday this year and I told them a bowiea. One of them found your website and surprised me with this incredible and unusual plant. I'm very happy.
