Drimia maritima has the common name the Red Squill or Sea Onion. A part of the Asparagaceae family, this flowering species grows from the underground bulb. Each spring, a rosette grows from a bulb. The foliage is marked by dark green color about 1 meter in height. However, the rosette dies during the blooming season or fall. At this time, the Drimia maritima bulbs produce an inflorescence covered with white flowers. This plant is native to Southern Europe, Western Asia, and Northern Africa or the entire Mediterranean region. The Sea onion succulent has a moderate growth rate and is not frost-hardy. It goes dormant in summer and requires full sun for optimal growth.
