Native to South Africa, Hoodia flava is a compact, spiny succulent shrub without leaves or branches. It has many cylindrical stems, which all arise from the base, and yellow flowers appear on the youngest parts of the plant in winter near the top. They will grow well in partial shade and withstand heavy rain in the summer months, but they will be just as happy if the season is dry.
