Lobivia famatimensis

Lobivia famatimensis, commonly known as ‘Orange cob cactus’, is a small globose-shaped cactus with showy flowers. A native of Chile, this winter-dormant plant is typically solitary but can offset and form a cluster. It grows up to the height of 15 cm and belongs to the Cactaceae family.

Growth Rate

Orange cob cacti have a slow growth rate.

Flowering

Lobivia famatimensis flowers are summer bloomers and last only a day or two before new blooms appear. Flower colors range from shades of yellow to orange.

Watering and Feeding

Water deeply and allow the soil to dry out completely before watering again. Keep dry during the winter. Orange cob cactus grows slowly and does not require any additional fertilizer. Replacing the potting soil in your plants once a year provides them with more than enough nutrition.

Soil

This plant is extremely sensitive to wet soil. So, choose potting soil that drains well and does not retain excessive moisture. A few handfuls of perlites mixed into regular store-bought cactus soil will suffice.

Hardiness

Lobivia famatimensis plants are not cold-hardy. They have a frost tolerance of 5° C (41° F) and belong to the hardiness zone of 10 to 12.

Light

These cacti require a lot of bright, direct sunlight and full sun exposure. Place them less than a foot away from a window to ensure they get enough light to survive.

Propagation

Propagate this variety of Lobivia by offsets or seeds.

The Orange Cob Cactus is an extremely rare houseplant that requires very little water to thrive and is easy to care for. This plant will make its best appearance as a decorative piece as well as a beautiful plant for plant lovers.
