A native of Chiapas, Mexico, Selenicereus anthonyanus is one of a fairly small group of epiphytic cacti. It is grown as an ornamental because of its nocturnal flowers and unusual, leaf-like stems. Common names include fishbone cactus, rickrack cactus, zig-zag cactus and St. Anthony's rickrack. They are used in hanging pots as indoor, patio and terrace and greenhouse plants. In tropical climates they are used as climbing plants to cover walls or as cover plants.

Growth Rate
Selenicereus anthonyanus is an easy, fast growing epiphyte plant.

Flowering
This cactus blooms showy, fragrant flowers with dark violet-rose outer petals and white inner petals in the late spring and early summer, opens in late afternoon and evening, lasting only one day.

Watering
Like most cacti, fishbone cactus houseplant does best when allowed to dry out between watering. During winter, cut watering in half and then reinstate when spring growth begins.

Soil
The Fishbone cactus needs well-draining soil with lots of air space since the roots would naturally be exposed to air.

Hardiness
this cactus belongs to the hardiness zone of 10a to 11b and has a frost tolerance of -1.1° C (30° F).

Light
They do not like full sun and many of them will become very damaged or will not survive very long when they receive too much direct sunlight. Instead, expose them to indirect, filtered sunlight.
