Copiapoa leonensis
The Copiapoa leonensis is a stunning native cactus from Northern Chile that is sure to add a unique look to any garden. In the springtime, it produces beautiful yellow-orangish flowers, and the stem of the cactus is grey-green but can turn pinkish if exposed to direct sunlight. The spines are long and stout, with spiraling tubercles but the ribs are visible in mature plants. This cactus grows slowly and requires a good amount of light shade to full sun to thrive. It is also sensitive to overwatering, especially during winter months, so it is important to provide the right amount of water for its optimal growth.

A little jewel

Copiapoa leonensis is a little jewel. It has rounded tubercles and short needle-like spines that aren't menacing if handled carefully. And it grows to only 2 3/8" wide, so it does well in a small pot with good drainage.
