Senecio oxyriifolius has the common name False Nasturtium. A member of the Asteraceae family, this succulent has a distinct tuberous creeping rootstock and multiple vertically erect fleshy stems. Needing bright and full sun exposure, the plant slowly grows into a compact herb, about 6 inches tall. The bluish-green fleshy leaves have a characteristic yellow border. The dense foliage blooms into tiny yellow flowers from Spring to Summer, the blooming season. This winter-dormant plant is highly drought-tolerant and a native of South Africa. Some of the other African countries where the False Nasturtium grows are Zimbabwe, Zambia, Congo, Angola, Swaziland, Malawi, Tanzania, and Mozambique.
