Adenia venenata

This unique plant is easy to grow, although it grows slightly better in nature than in a pot, but you will love it either way! The Adenia venenata should be grown in a large pot with a well-draining mix. During the vegetative period, be sure to let it dry between waterings. This plant requires intense light, but you should protect it from the blasting summer sun. This unique plant can be grown as a bonsai.

  • Hardiness: In winter, keep it dry at temperatures above 5 degrees Celsius (even if it is resistant to short frosts).
  • Propagation: Seeds or herbaceous cuttings. Leave the cutting surface to dry well before planting.
  • Warning: Handle with care because it is a poisonous plant.
  • Uses: The plant is widely cultivated near villages for its medicinal and tribal uses. Adenia venenata is used to treat intestinal worms. In Kenya, Turkana people use the leaves to treat cattle suffering from mange. Fruit possibly edible.

Adenia and Bisponosum

The A. venenata has good roots and is emerging from dormancy. The two P. bisponosum appear to be cuttings and not grown from seed. I hope this does not negatively impact caudex growth as this does with some species.

Beautiful, unique plant!

First off, this plant was very well packaged and there wasn't a bit of damage to show that it had been transported across the country. I was very impressed and happy to see that the pot had a top layer of pebbles. The Adenia still lives in the same pot after a month or so, growing well. I was also happy that I did not have to change the soil! The media is a perfect mix. It lives outside in the rainy Florida weather without missing a beat. Overall super pleased. I know this plant is going to grow to be one of my favorites.

Super cute but hopefully I can save it

I hope it lives. When I received the plant, it was droopy already. Some leaves almost dried out. I'm really hoping I can save it.
