Agave Truncata is commonly known as the Artichoke Plant. This globe-shaped succulent grows between 3 to 4 feet in height and belongs to the Asteraceae family. The plant goes dormant in winter and is native to Arizona, New Mexico, and Northern Mexico.

Growth Rate

This relatively slow-growing plant takes about 10 to 15 years to mature and reach its maximum height.

Flowering

In summer and fall, the artichoke agave plant grows numerous small disk-shaped flowers in blue and purple color.

Watering and Feeding

In winters, water once a month and from spring to fall, water whenever the soil becomes dry. Plants in containers will need more watering. For the first two years, feed Agave Truncata with a small amount of fertilizer in spring.

Soil

Maintain a pH between 7 and 8. You can choose between loamy but fertile soil or sandy and shallow rocky soil. No matter what you choose, keep it well drained.

Hardiness

The artichoke agave thrives in hardiness zone 7 through 10. This drought-resistant succulent does not handle cold well and has a frost tolerance of -12.2°C.

Light

Bright direct natural light is a must. If you grow the plant indoors, place it in a window position with the most sunlight. Bring it outside in spring to fall and return indoors during the cooler months.
