Pink Grafted Moon Cactus - Gymnocalycium mihanovichii Hibotan

Gymnocalycium mihanovichii Hibotan Pink goes by the common name ‘Moon Cactus.’ The plant originates from Africa and is a member of the Cactaceae family. The characteristic aspect of Flapjacks is its red-colored body that is mainly due to lack of chlorophyll. It is also the reason why Gymnocalycium mihanovichii grafting is necessary, else the plant can die. The summer-dormant plant requires partial shade rather than full sun exposure for good growth. The funnel/bell-shaped cacti grow to a height of 1 foot with a fast growth rate.

Gymnocalycium mihanovichii Hibotan Pink is a fast-growing plant. It needs care, especially during grafting.

Flowering

Gymnocalycium mihanovichii cactus flowers during winter or early spring, which is the blooming season. The plant bears pinkish-red flowers that are about 6 to 7 cm long.

Watering and Feeding

Moon cactus needs sparse water from March till October, which is the dormant month. During winter, the plant should be kept completely dry. Potassium-rich fertilizers are good for feeding during summers.

Soil

Gymnocalycium mihanovichii is not very care-sensitive as it is easy to grow. The best is to use well-permeable soil. It should contain peat, humus, and very little organic matter.

Hardiness

Moon Cactus lie in the hardiness zone of 11 to 12. It is best to avoid frost as it has a frost tolerance level of up to -2° C (28.4° F).

Light

Moon Cactus grow well in partial shade. Ensure not to expose to prolonged sun exposure.

Propagation

This cactus can be propagated by seeds.

So cute!

I was worried about how this cactus would ship and whether the top would break off, but it was delivered in perfect condition! There’s a bright pink top and it looks exactly like the picture. Will definitely be buying more soon.
