The common name of Opuntia Quimilo is ‘Common Prickly Pear’. It belongs to the Crassulaceae family and grows up to 12 cm in height. With its origin in Northwestern, this low-maintenance winter-dormant cactus has elongated-shaped leaves.

Growth Rate

It is a fast-growing species.


Flowering the Prickly pear cactus is fun to watch. The beautiful orange-colored flower blooms in the summer season.

Water and Feeding/Fertilizer

Opuntia Quimilo must be kept dry in the winter season but do not overwater. Allow it to get fully dried out before watering again.


The soil should be well-drained.


The  Common prickly pear belongs to the hardiness zone of 8-10 and has a frost tolerance of 12° C (53.6° F).

Expectations exceeded

I bought this cactus because it looked dangerous. When I received it, it looks much more dangerous than the picture. Lots of long sharp spines. I'm thrilled! Definitely be careful with this one
